Problem Statement: Over the next 30 years, it is anticipated that the world will need to source 70% more food to provide for the growing population, and it is likely that a significant amount of this will have to come from irrigated land. However, the quality of irrigation water is also important, and measuring the quality of this water will allow management decisions to be made. Soil salinity is an important parameter in crop yield, and in this paper, we describe a chloride sensor system based on a low-cost robust screen-printed chloride ion sensor, suitable for use in distributed sensor networks. Previously, this sensor has been used in controlled laboratory-based experiments, but here we provide evidence that the sensor will find application outside of the laboratory in field deployments. We report on three experiments using this sensor; one with a soil column, one using a fluvarium, and finally on an experiment in a greenhouse. All these give an insight into the movement of chloride over small distances with high temporal resolution. These initial experiments illustrate that the new sensors are viable and usable with relatively simple electronics, and although subject to ongoing development, they are currently capable of providing new scientific data at high spatial and temporal resolutions. Therefore, we conclude that such chloride sensors, coupled with a distributed wireless network, offer a new paradigm in hydrological monitoring and will enable new applications, such as irrigation using mixtures of potable and brackish water, with significant cost and resource saving.

Problem Statement: India is the second largest populated country in the world. With rapid urbanization, the amount of waste generated in urban areas has increased tremendously leading to a major concern. Most of them are dumped in landfills directly without proper treatment and segregation. This practice leads to a lot of problems. Groundwater gets contaminated. These landfills act as a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes, rats and stray dogs. Conservancy staff and rag pickers who are exposed to these landfills develop a lot of health problems. To address this issue, segregation should be done at various levels. The important level of segregation is the source itself. Even primitive segregation at the households could be a turning point in the waste management of the country. The economic value of waste is unexplored in the country. In this article, an automated waste segregator is proposed that segregates the waste into wet and dry waste at the household level using capacitive proximity sensor and inductive proximity sensor, which also detects the bin filling status.

Problem Statement: Usage of motor bike is preferred by most of the people for it is an easy way for transport and it needs a little space comparatively on parking. But when accidents happen, it causes severe injuries and sometimes deaths as well. There are many reasons for these accidents, internally and externally. Forgetting to lift up the side stand is one of the reasons and it could be avoided by certain technical aspects. This paper presents an automatic side stand for motor bikes, which could be lifted up while the bike starts moving and retrieve back when it stops. The design consists of sensors, relay switches and regulators which are controlled by Arduino UNO program. There is no need to additional energy source or any other complexity since the designed system uses the necessary power from the motor bike battery.

Problem Statement: Arduino based IOT device for septuagenarian fall detection has developed especially for the elder peoples who are staying alone in home. If the old age peoples felt down in most of the cases, it will lead to serious injuries and they can’t raise voice due to shock. This work possess to make the detector on arduino based device for the old age people who fall down. The device is used to detect the falling of a person with the help of accelerometer and this is specially designed as to contact an entitled person as soon. The implementation is based on the combination of both hardware and software that detects and triggers the entitled person through SMS alert. The special feature of this device is portable and it can fix in any space like wheel chair, bed, and the old age person can also fix it with their watch they wear.

Problem Statement: Vehicle accidents are rapidly increasing in many countries. Among many other factors, drowsiness and fatigue are playing a major role in these accidents and systems which can monitor it are currently being developed. Among them, Electroencephalography (EEG) proved to be very reliable. The conventional vehicle and the vision based detection for drowsiness is very much essential only when the driver is about to sleep and every so often very late in preventing fatalities on road. This paper is specially developed to improve the safety of the bikers. The proposed system has EEG-sensors which are implemented within the helmet to detect the drowsy state of the driver. The biomedical signal from the driver’s brain is sensed by a Brain-wave sensor. This system provides real-time drowsiness and fatigue detection for the bikers by making a helmet to play a vital part with warning platform as a miniaturized sensor and to provide mind machine interface (MMI) to address the challenges like drowsiness and fatigue. When the biker is detected to be in drowse state the system alerts the biker by an alarm and motor gets slow down and stopped.

Problem Statement: Temperature Profiling is vital on all operations at a manufacturing company especially on processes using heat treatment such as ovens, furnaces, temperature cycling, and reflow ovens. In most cases there is an insufficient number of temperature profilers needed by all the manufacturing processes. The best alternative to acquiring the needed number of temperature profilers is sharing between the several processes. But this solution leads to manufacturing process downtime that eventually affects the production yield. This paper presents the development of a low-cost temperature profiling system. The system is designed using an Arduino Mega2560 micro controller with a Raspberry-Pi used as CPU. It features an alert system with digital notification in case there is a system malfunction. It is software designed to present in a graphical format the temperature profiles

Problem Statement: In recent years, motion capture is predominantly used in biomedical and entertainment industry. The widespread use of motion capture in entertainment industry has deployed revolutionary changes in the field. At the same time, motion capture technology enhances the quality of human lives with its contribution to perform motion study in the applications like medical diagnosis and rehabilitation. Many research works have been carried out to make the technology as more accurate, versatile and viable to use in other fields. On the other hand, optical system also gains research interest with its extended applications in big industries and facilities. But they are very expensive and requires a large setup with various other limitations that makes optical system unaffordable for many small-scale industries and applications. This research work proposes a system based on inertial sensing is observed as a more accurate model when compared with the existing optical system and it also overcomes many other major drawbacks like flexibility and initial costing. System consists of MPU6050 integrated with Arduino Uno board. The output is serially given to computer via Arduino board, on which the output is presented in unity software. Complementary filter is used to integrate data from sensors.
